Operations Manager

Description

As a member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Operations Manager position is responsible for leading all manufacturing processes in a high-volume, high-mix food manufacturing plant. This role will use effective leadership, planning, continuous improvement, technical, communication, and coaching skills to empower teams to ensure safe production of high quality products to meet our customer needs in the most cost-effective manner.

Essential Functions

  • Effectively leads people, teams, and processes; working through front-line managers, sets expectations, tracks results, and manages accountability for all areas of Production in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Develops strategic and tactical plans to meet business needs, with timely implementation.
  • Manages financial performance, including budgeting, costing, tracking of expenses and direct labor, and results feedback.
  • Organizes and manages daily operational requirements to consistently exceed customer expectations.
  • Drives Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to dramatically improve costs.
  • Supports aggressive "speed-to-market" and other Corporate initiatives to help grow the business.
  • Coaches, teaches, and provides opportunities for team members to develop their business, technical, and social skills.
  • Evaluates team performance efficiencies and adjusts necessary resources for schedule attainment.
  • Systematically solves problems and implements effective solutions to root causes of problems
  • Manages operations to comply with HR regulations and company policies and guidelines
  • Ensures product safety and security: establishes high performance standards in Housekeeping, GMP's, BRC and HACCP
  • Ensures product quality: establishes and manages systems to ensure "right the first time" performance and appropriate interfaces with suppliers and customers.
  • Leads and implements TPM related initiatives
  • Establishes safety as the top priority in training, job design, work assignment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides day-to-day operational direction across the site as a back-up to the Plant Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; delegating tasks to and partnering with employees who have leadership responsibilities; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:
  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience in manufacturing, engineering or the food processing field.
  • 8 years of leadership experience in continuously increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience in variety of manufacturing areas including production and logistics within the food industry preferred.
  • History of successful implementation of improvement methodologies such as OEE, 5S, TPM, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing

Attendance:

To support ongoing business goals and successfully contribute to your team, acceptable levels of performance and attendance must be consistently maintained, including attending all required meetings and events. Requires the flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed.

Follows procedures to ensure all food quality standards are met or exceeded. Must also produce quality work measured by efficiency, accuracy, and completion of both personal and company goals in a manner that embodies Krusteaz values and our culture of integrity, dignity and respect.

Safety/Legal

Employees are required to conduct their work in a safe and legal manner, according to all GMP food safety standards as well as following all compliance and Krusteaz safety protocols. Employees must be willing to be responsible for their safety and health as well as the safety and health of all employees, vendors and visitors.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires working in both manufacturing and office environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone along with reaching. Specific vision abilities include close vision requirements due to computer work. Moderate noise, ability to work in a confined area, and ability to sit at a computer for an extended period of time are also included. Must be able to effectively communicate and work in a dynamic environment. You may also be on your feet for several hours a day and may be exposed to a variety of physical demands that require you to lift heavy objects, climb stairs, exert energy, bend, twist and squat and use tools and equipment in an indoor production environment that has a high level of food dust and limited climate control while wearing PPE.
